Dad's Army Movie - (2016)
It is 1944 and World War II is reaching its climax. The Allies are poised to invade France and finally defeat the German army. But in Walmington-on-Sea morale amongst the Home Guard is low. Their mission is to patrol the Dover army base – a great chance to revive spirits and reputation, that is until glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits. MI5 then discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea, there’s a spy in the town. The outcome of the war is suddenly at stake, and it falls to the plaottn to stand up and be counted.
Directed by Oliver Parker, produced by Damian Jones with an all-star British cast; Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring, Bill Nighy as Wilson, Tom Courtenay as Jones, Bill Paterson as Frazer, Michael Gambon as Godfrey, Blake Harrison as Pike and Daniel Mays as Walker. Catherine Zeta Jones also stars as Rose Winters.

A cinematic grimy London backdrop was required for the film. It needed scale and a population to demonstrate what was considered at risk during the war.
